My brother is planning on taking the LSAT in June. The problem is that he's starting to study only in early May. I tried telling him to that he can skip the June exam and take the September exam. What is the average amount of time people are taking to study for the LSAT?

Taking the June LSAT could help him gain an early admission if he scores well. There is no guarantee that studying for two extra months will yield a higher result. I spent 5 weeks studying for the LSAT, and in the end i think it was too much. Maybe 4 weeks of intensive and efficient training would have been better.

The problem is that 4 weeks for my brother is really 2 1/2 weeks of actual studying. I'm gonna have him reschedule his test date.

The amount of time needed is relative to your skill level and your ability to learn exam taking techniques. I would say that 4 weeks is the minimum amount of time needed to score in the top 75 percentile.

Some courses are 8 weeks and if you have a full time job, then you will need to spread out your studying over an even longer period of time. If you are lazy and not a self-motivated person, and you are not taking timed exams, then make sure you give yourself all the time in the world. Practicing law is not worth it unless you can make money and only those from T-50 law schools get the creme de la creme jobs.
