retirement account protection 11 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 1  
I was told that under the new bankruptcy laws, that self funded retirement accounts are not protected in bankruptcy. Can someone expand on that?

My understanding is that these accounts are no longer protected. While a small amount may be, the bankruptcy trustee may go after a substantial retirement account. The new laws were put into place because under the old laws, people would develop large retirement accounts that were except. They would use the laws to sheild, in some cases, substantial assets.
