dropping out 8 Years, 11 Months ago
I am a 2L law student in Ohio. I now in my 2nd semester 2nd yr of law school. I really only have 1 1/2 yrs of classes plus the bar exam remaining. The problem is that i do not enjoy studying the law, writing or researching cases. While many subject are interesting, i dont feel fulfilled and i want to look into other opportunities. The problem is that i'm not sure what i want to do. I have an undergraduate degree in corporate finance from Regent Univ and i am attending a T50 law school. The problem is that my brain is so fried from classes that i cant determine how to analyze what it is that will make me happy. So, since i watch the legalnut forums, i am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

the problem with dropping out is that you have nothing to show for your efforts and you still have student loans and not license to practice law. What will you do to earn a living if you drop out?

At least if you get your degree, pass the bar, you can pay off your debt and get on track to do something else.

I get bucksoplenty's point, but the flip side of that is incurring additional debt in a profession that's simply not making the money it used to. Just ask the lawyers out there. Most of them aren't happy and aren't making a satisfactory income.

That said, before you drop out, check with your law school to find out how long you can be away from school and still return to continue your education. Just understand your options. A corp finance is a pretty lucrative degree/background.

I think that the problem is that you think that you can actually be happy with school or a career. I think that happiness is the ultimate illusion.

You've come this far, just finish LS, payoff your debt and live the American dream of getting married, divorced, making a million and loosing it all!

chow!

I would tend to agree with TMI (except for his spelling!)

Finish you law degree, use it any way you want and at least you can put the degree in your pocket and use it when you want. If you give up now, then you have only your law school loans to show for your efforts.
