I've been following law blogs and news articles and there seems to be a common theme, that the practice of the law is a mature business whose long term demand for new lawyers will likely level off and thin out at a level below that of the ever-increasing supply of lawyers. It sounds like there are too many law schools producing too many attorneys. Thoughts and recommendations for new grads?

Your thoughts appear correct. In my ethics course we were talking about how there are 3 times as many licensed attorneys in the state as there were convenience stores. Thats scary! Medical schools control the number of students entering the practice, but law schools dont. They keep opening campuses and admitting marginal students. The result will be a lot of law schools graduates with out jobs.

According to the American Bar Association, there were 1,128,729 resident and active attorneys in the United States in 2006 and 1,143,358 in 2007. A small percentage of the increase (actual number 352) is due to American Somoa and Guam being added to the survey in 2007.
