Honigman Miller Schwartz in Michigan laid off 15 partners and 30 staff. Just to add to the list.

A check of the State of Illinois Bar Association website shows no bar
license for "Michelle Robinson" or "Michelle Obama". It has been reported
that Michelle Obama "voluntarily" gave up her law license in 1993, just
five years after she got the license.

Reading this thread struck a cord with me. I am a third year law student at a 4th tier law school and i am not graduating with honors. I wonder what kind of jobs will be out their for me as the job market in Toldeo and Akron Ohio is bleak with large law firms laying off people. Then i come across this thread and it looks as if there is a large population of attorneys unhappy with the practice of law.

I'm not sure what i will do if i cant get a job. The truth is that i enjoyed law school and i love to research and write, but the billables scare me as i am slow at research and writing.

I'm no further closer to a decision and i cant see the light at the end of the tunnel, but i wanted to vent anyway.

I practiced law for over 14 years and then started my own professional placement agency. In under 5 years i started making more money with less stress and less exposure to malpractice than i had in my law practice. I encourage people to get a law degree because if i didnt get the law degree i would not be where i am today. So, the key thing to consider is now whether you want to practice all for the rest of your life, but will a law degree help you to do other things outside the practice of law. If the answer is yes then you have your answer.
