A question was sent via email regarding LSAT scholarships, which read as follows:

I took the June 2008 LSAT and regrettably need to take it again as I received a 146. My GPA is 3.5 and I'm determined to become an attorney. With this LSAT score, I know that I need extra help studying but can't afford a prep course. If you know of any LSAT prep course scholarships or any place I can turn to for assistance, I would highly appreciate it. I live in Denver, Colorado if that helps at all.


There are very few LSAT scholarship or grant programs I am aware of. A handful of law schools offer such programs but have very defined criteria that has to be met. Locally what should happen is you should go to your local law schools and talk to someone in the financial aid department. They can tell you what they offer and under what conditions. If you not looking to get into a particular school, even with your LSAT number you will be able to get into a law school. Use the law school tool on this site to get an idea of what schools will likely accept your numbers.

FYI; university scholarships offer money toward a law degree and even prep courses.

That is what i was getting at, its just the different schools may have different requirements and that each needs to be checked into individually to see if its something the potential candidate can meet.

It's not well-publicized, but at least a couple of the major LSAT prep companies - The Princeton Review and Kaplan - do offer need-based financial aid.

My knowledge is limited, but I believe both require forms similar to what you might fill out for financial aid at an undergraduate institution (income and tax info, and the like).

To find out more, I'd give each company a call.

Of course, I don't think that both of those companies have equal levels of LSAT expertise, but that's an issue for a separate thread.

The financial aid prep course offer is private aid. Typically the cost to finance through Kaplan or PR is higher than USgov or a bank.

Regarding prep courses, I used PR and it worked for me. If I had more time I would have used the power bibles too.

To be clear, what I'm talking about isn't a loan, or financing, of any sort (I'm not even sure if the prep companies offer such a thing). These are straight up scholarships, that don't need to be paid back.
