Even if lawyers do complicate matters a bit at the start. Its kind of their job, to make sure the person they are representing does not run into a pitfall later, or get completely screwed out of what he may be entitled to. They don't generally complicate things for the sake of complicating things. Most things are just complicated and need a trained eye to make sure that they are handled even-handedly.
