My tax law projects requires me to prepare a private letter ruling. Can someone share the format or a sample?

at teh begining of each year, the irs publishing a revenue procedure describing the format and procedure of how to request a private letter ruling.

For example, this years private letter ruling is revenue procedure 2011-1 or Rev Proc 2011-1.

Check it out, it will have all the details you need.

All private letter rulings follow the same format. The Rev Proc also sets out the fee schedules. I would pull one from lexis ro westlaw and use it as a template.

Also, be care that you are not requesting a private letter ruling for a situation in which a PLR was already issued. The IRS will also not issue a PLR for "comfort" to the taxpayer requesting the PLR. Must be based on a matter of law for which not clear support exists.
