Is there any legitimatcy to the "Super Lawyer Law School rankning" or is it all hype to sell advertising space?

My father was listed in Super Lawyers. He said that they call attorneys and tell them that they were nominated for the publication and then they "encourage" you to place an add in their publication. My father didnt purchase any add space in it as he said that its circulated mainly to other attorneys and the general public doesnt subscribe to it. Its akin to advertising in a legal newspaper, which only attorneys would read.

They do the same thing for dentists and doctors. Its all paid advertising. My cousin was featured as "voted best dentist" right after she finished dental school. How is that possible if she had no post dental school experience. Its the public that is dooped.

Do "Super Lawyers" wear red capes?

Doctors, dentists and attorneys all have publications which promote certain professions and the publications are circulated to professionals in that industry. Not sure it does much goodother than using that status when marketing in other publications.

Just read the Superlawyers editorials - its all attorney to attorney advertising. Docs and dentists have the same thing.

it was difficult to know much about the magazine’s methodology in making selections as a "Super Lawyer". Super Lawyers Magazine is owned by Thomson West, which also owns Findlaw.

SuperLawyers thrives on the very expensive magazine ads that supplement its listings. So, the more you pay to be listed in the magazine, the more "super" you are.

Its a stupid concept, but they are making money!
