i didn't extend my taxes. Can I still send it in now? I don't owe any money, i just dont have all the documents ready to prepare my taxes. I was told that I can extend after April 15, so what is the penalty?

I would send the extension in anyway. I know they may not accept it if its late, but i still wold send it in.

The penalty for filing late is based on the tax liability. If you dont owe any money then there probably wont be a tax liability. I would file asap in case you are entitled to a federal stimulus refund. The refunds will be send to taxpayers would filed their tax returns and whose income is within certain ranges depending on whether you are single or married filing joint.
