I was listening to NPR news and they stated that a law firm for the Susan G. Komen for the cure was suing to prevent other charities from using the trademark tag line "for the cure". They cited that they are losing donations to other charities with similar purposes. I thought that was very interesting as charities are even feeling the pinch of the economic slow down and dont want to share with other charities.

Charities are losing out to other non-profits due to the decrease in overall charitable giving nationwide. I think what you are seeing is non-profits taking measures to protect their donor base and to strengthen brand identity. Its charity fighting charity. Seems courter-intuitive, but its reality due to the economic hardship this country is facing.

It wasnt just the phrase "for the cure" that they were protecting, it was also the pink ribbon. The pink ribbon is a symbol of awareness of the relationship between a healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet. Don't forget that the Komen Foundation has raised over $1Billion for cancer research. I'm sure they appropriate a certain dollar amount out of the $1billion to for lawsuits and protection of intellectual property. I wont how much of each dollar actually goes to cancer research.
