Green Card 10 Years, 4 Months ago
A family friend came to the United States as a child. She was taken into child welfare and grew up as a foster child. She is currently 25 and has a green card that expires next year. What steps must she take to become a citizen?

Laws regarding naturalization are very complicated so I would encourage her to meet with an attorney to discuss the plusses and minus of applying for citizenship. If she qualifies she would file an N-400 application for naturalization. But there is a chance that her background or certain circumstances in her life make it better for her to just renew her green card. For this reason a consultation with an attorney would be what I recommend before she files anything.
