Attorney self interest 12 Months ago Karma: 2
Can I be the business attorney for a client and also sell them insurance and financial services at the same time? If there is a conflict is it adverse or can I just hav ethem sign a waiver of conflict?

If it is a conflict, can I have someone else write the insurance policies and just take a commission? Do I need to notify the client? Thanks

I worked for a law firm that also owned a title company. We disclosed to all our clients that we would be receiving attorney fees for the legal work and our title company would be collecting a separate fee. If anyone involved in the transaction objected, we would not perform the title work. In Texas, the ethic board is very fair. I would contact the ethics commitee in your state and get an opinion just in case.

If the transaction is approved, you will need to fully disclose the transaction and your commission to the client. We did it all the time.
