DPOA or guardianship 4 Months ago Karma: 1
In caring for an elderly relative in the early stages of Alzheimers, which document gives more power to the caregiver. I already have DPOA and Medical POA, but I want to make sure I have all the bases covered.

This is also an ethics question as the kids want to sign for the mother even though the mother does not have the mental capacity to sign but the kids are in agreement as to what to do for their parent.
Thanks!

If the individual has Alzheimer's then a DPOA can not be signed now and the only option is to become a court appointed guardian/conservator.

Does the individual have a prior DPOA properly executed? If so, a DPOA will survive incapacity.
