do i need to share the bank account? 7 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 1
My grandmother died and left a will. Its being probated in South Carolina. I owned a bank account with her and now that she passed away, i believe that i am entitled to the entire bank account.

I am also a beneficiary under the will. The other beneficiaries are saying that i am getting a larger share than they are. I am not disputing this, but the reason i am getting more is that i cared for my grandmother in her final days when the others didnt.

Is there any law that would require me to share the bank account with the other beneficiaries of her estate?

Not sure about SC law, but usually, jointly held assets pass to the surviving co-owners outside of probate or trust admin. So, if you are the surviving co-owner of the jointly held bank account and you are also a bene under the will, there is nothing the other benes can do to "equalize" the bequests, unless the Will or some other document provides clear and convincing evidence that it was the intent of the grandmother that you share equally in all assets. Is there any document to that fact?
