I received a call from a physical therapy office stating that if i used their services that they would give me $50. They also stated that if i referred other insured patients to them that I would get $50 per referral. It sounds like good business, but is it legal?

Referrals fees that violate Stark are punishable by a $15,000 civil money penalty. In addition, any claim paid as the result of an improper referral is considered an overpayment, and punishable by a $100,000 civil penalty. Are you a licensed physical therapist?
