When a cop runs a license what can they see? 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0  
A friend's brother is a cop and he said that when cop are behind someone they run license numbers just to find out info in people even if they dont intent to pull the car over. I'm curious as to what the cops can see on their on-board computer. An cops in the forum want to chim in?

My first cousin is a police officer and he said that they do run plates when they are free as they often "catch perps with warrants for their arrest" and even deadbeat fathers that are behind on child support. So, i think that running plates is a good thing. Otherwise criminals could continue to go undetected.

Running plates is part of the traffic protocol for traffic officers. If your plate is expired or if you have a warrant out for your arrest, there is sufficient probable cause to pull you over.
