If tax returns are amended after the bankruptcy petition and a liability is due on the amended tax returns, is there a requirement to update the bankruptcy application? Or only if there was a refund? I'm asking because you cant discharge the recent tax liability so i dont think the creditors would care.

You are right. The other creditors dont want any more competition on collection so they wont care if the income tax liability is not made part of the bankruptcy estate. Th taxpayer would not be able to get off the hook anyway as the tax liability is less than 3 yrs old.
