If a client files for bankruptcy will that impact the client's ability to apply for a life insurance policy? I.e. will a bankruptcy preclude an applicant's ability to get a policy or artificially increase premium rates?

The good news is that life insurance companies rate you based on health more than income or credit score. So, i dont think that a prior bankruptcy or low income would affect the premium amount. They just want your money and if you cant afford the premiums anymore,....well they wont care.

Sounds good. Thx. I was just curious if life insurance companies inquired if the applicant had previously filed bankruptcy and if so, would that affect the life insurance premium rates.

Actually, if you have filed bankruptcy you usually need to notify the life insurance company on the application as they gather information on the applicants to determine why you are applying for life insurance and to make sure that you dont commit suicide after the 2 yr probation period.
