Is there any paperwork that needs to be filed or anything else before a repo or can they just come and take vehicle any time they like after you miss a payment?

Read your purchase or lease agreement. Usually if you are in default for XX number of days and you ignore requests for payment or dont make arrangement to make payment, then the lien holder can levy and take the car away. You received notice when you were contacted for payment.

cars gone. In order for me to get it back will have to pay the delinquent payments, impound fees, and charges. I was late on the payments, but i didnt receive notice prior to the taking

If you send a letter to the lender, they may waive the late charges if you can show that you have a history of making timely payments. Its worth a try. You never know what you can get until you ask!
