Did anyone catch the report on NPR news about China's Gow-Cow? Essentially, Chinese students study for 3 years to take the Gow-Cow placement test. The test essentially measures your ability to memorize information. If you do well on the exam, then you get to go to a great university. And if you score poorly, then you are SOL and will work in McDonalds for the rest of your life.
What i thought was fascinating, is that after the Gow-Cow, most college students do not study, skip class and go on to be unemployed. The article stated that because students burned out in high school they didnt have much ambition in college. That feels like me right now!

Its called burn-out. What good is getting into college if you barley graduate and loose all modivation. Most college students just drink, have sex and play video games. Last time i checked, no one got paid for doing any of those things.

Gow Cow has also produced some of the worlds best scientists, physicians and engineeris. Its actually very similar to the US educational system where teachers get bonuses when a certain percentage of their class passes the MEAP test. Problem with standardized exams is that it test creative thinking and it encourages kids to think the same in order to achieve the same results
