It seems to be hit or miss, no one ever checked mine, but I had friends that were checked. I suppose it depends on the investigator and what is in your application.

How deep do these people get into you past. I mean, do I have to worry about a bounced check. I have a clean record, but no one is perfect. There is always someting minor

Interesting you ask. They actually get very detailed including an FBI backgound check and you must report any recent bounced checks or bad credit marks you have these days. It does not mean you wil not be let into the bar if you bounced a check in the past, but you will have some explaining to do.
