My father and cousin are both practicing attorneys and they each have side businesses. My father owns a title company and my cousin owns a medical staffing company. This dual professional arrangement is not exclusive to attorneys. CPAs, doctors, dentists, ect all have their "other" business on the side which they enjoy and make them money. I think attorneys are uniquely positioned in that they have the legal background and can easily transition into another business much easier than other professionals.

There has been so much discussion on the dual professions of practicing attorneys. I look at John Edwards and he practiced law and then got into politics. Not everyone sticks with teh same profession for their entire career. I guess i am just surprised that this topic is addressed by so many people as if its new or revolutionary. I'm sure if you sampled other professions you would find attrition rates too
