How do get a DC internship? Do you have to be involved in a local political group or can you just apply after 1st year law school? I had no political involvement prior to law school but would like to intern in DC with the Obama admin. How do i break in?

Just get a headhunter that deals with DC interns. Some charge a fee to place you and some get paid by the party giving you the intern job. Make sure that you find out in advance so that you are not surprised later.

Or just check a DC jobs site. http://www.usaintern.com/jobs-internship/internships/Washington,%20D.C./

I took your advice and called one of the recruiters on the usaintern site. When i pressed them for an explanation of how they get paid they said it depends on where i get recruited. So, there is no agreement until they present me with an offer, then they tell me the fee. Thats sounds peculiar.......Thoughts?

Dont just look for Washington DC interns. Unless your ultimate goal is to be in or near the white house, i would check out the local legal and government interns in your state. E.g., in Chicago there are numerous political party intern boards and forums; in addition intern sites by category and specialty. What are you looking for? What is on your wish list?
