I would prefer to clerk for a trial court to learn the procedure of litigation and arguing a case in front of a jury. I have an opportunity to clerk for an appellate judge and i am wonder if i will just be doing research and writing or actually learn how to litigate a case. Thoughts?

Take what you can get. You will make great contacts at either. I would lean toward the appellate clerkship as i think that employers are looking for superior writing skills. You will get plenty of trial experience at a law firm.

Appellate court clerks get the bets of both worlds. Appellate law clerks see well written briefs, learn from experienced trial attorneys, see trials in front of judges and interesting issues. Either choice is win-win.
