i got an offer to do an unpaid intern for a Federal Judge. I also expect to land an offer at a mid sized local law firm for a summer associate position which pays well. Which should i take?

Research and writing is very important and you will get a lot more writing experience clerking for a judge. At a law firm, you will be given crap projects and drafting memos for attorneys rather than brief writing. Then again it depends on what you want to do. If you plan on being a transactional attorney, then go to a law firm. If you want to litigate, then clerk for the judge.

Based on my experience, i reference from a judge will hold more weight than a reference from a law firm. In addition, if you understand the operation of how the court room works and runs, you will be even more valuable to a law firm.

hey all,
i decided to take the paid position at the law firm. My reasoning was that two of the head partners offered to mentor me and said that i would get more practical experience in the law firm that the court house. Only time will tell if i am making the right decision. Right now its the right decision. So, i'll come back to this thread with updates. I start on Monday.
