I have a friend that works at county probate court. The probate court needs runners and assistants for filing. I'm not interested in probate law, but its the only governmental court in my area looking for help. What makes it worse is that its a volunteer position. Also, i cant imagine that there is much writing or court experience to be gained. So, how would it look on my resume to have probate court experience? My first choice would be to be a research clerk in products liability or commercial litigation, but there are no opportunities for me right now at the US economy has slowed and the law schools are producing too many attorneys. I feel bad for even starting law school as 75% of my class cant find work and I've sunk $50k into law school already. It would be a huge waste to stop now. I'm just confused and not sure what i should do. This sucks!

Its easy to get discouraged with law school as there is a sea of attorneys looking for work and the competition for jobs is fierce.
Regarding the summer internship, the probate court volunteer program may not have the most snob appeal or even pay for your lunch, but in this economy any job is a good job. Work experience is work experience regardless of whether you were paid for it.
I'd say take the position and stick it out at law school. What do you have to show for it if you quit now?

Pezollmm, i think i've come to the realization that I have few choices. I'm gonna complete law school so that I at least have the option to practice law even if no law firms will even hire me. The truth is that my undergraduate degree in finance will not get me a job so I need to get educated in a field that I can create a career. I just want to know why it costs so much to go to law school. COmpared to the income that I can make the cost seems too high.
Where are you at?

Look at it this way. You have two years to finish law school, then take the bar exam and wait for results. That puts you at November 2011. Hopefully by then the world looks like a better place to work and live. Dont be too short sighted.
