The best place for accurate stats on attorney salaries is the National Association for Legal Professionals (NALP). according to their data, the median salary for attorneys in the private sector has been about the same for the past 3 years. Of course, lawyers in Chicago, NY, Washington and Cali have the highest starting pay.

The problem with the Nat Assoc of Legal Prof salary charts is that they are not based on specialty. Certain specialities such as criminal law and workerscompensation offer lower starting salaries, whereas patent law and antitrust offer higher salaries.
