Princeton Review or Kaplan? 2 Months ago Karma: 0
I want to take an LSAT prep course and my options are Kaplan and the Princeton Review (for a regular classroom course. I can't do a weekend course and don't want to do online). I have been reading some horror stories about Kaplan in other forums, but not much yet about PR's Hyperlearning course. I know they revamped it a few months ago and it's supposed to be much better, but can't find reviews. Has anyone taken it? Any success stories with Kaplan? I am leaning toward PR but would like to hear from those who've taken either recently.

Thanks!

I assume you are taking the Dec LSAT. Kaplan is a larger company with many talented instructor. All the course are about the same. Im doing the powerscore bibles with a PR course and tutor. Everyone I know is using a difference combination. PR seems to hav ebetter fundamentals when it comes to instruction, testing, and review. I also like the tutoring asisstance I received from PR. Also, my tutor knew a lot about various law schools and essay writing as she is also a licensed attorney.

So, I had a great experience with PR and would recommend it. Its definately better than doing nothing and bombing the exam and getting stuck with trying to get a job using only an undergrad degree.

What is your short list (top 5) of Law schools?

I'm doing the full Kaplan course. It has been very helpful; from pretest to actual exam. I've raised my score 8 index points, to 166. Its not T-10, but it will get me into T50. powersscore bibles are great if you dont need a tutor or if you can teach yourself how to score high.

Who took the Oct LSAT? I'm ready to cancel my score and get ready for Dec. I didnt take a full course b/c i tried to save money. I just didnt feel prepared for the exam. I'm in the same boat, I need to take a course and get ready for the next exam! It sucks b/c I wasted a lot of time and I need to start over. I probably need to un-learn all that i taught myself.................Ugh!

Thanks for the replies! The PR course sounds like it would work for me. I am trying to go back to school after 15 years of doing communications, so I am definitely going to need help on the fundamentals. I will sign up for it!!

My top choice is UVa. I visited the school and it amazing, plus I have family there. Their average LSAT is really high, though.

I haven't narrowed down the others just yet, but I love California and New York so I'm looking mostly there.

Thanks again!!

Did you post this same question over at LSD as well?

In any case, I teach for TPR. Here's what you should do.

Give both local offices a call, or stop by.

Ask them who's teaching the course you're interested in.

Say you'd like to meet them, before signing up for the course. Insist on getting at least an email address or phone number.

Drop the instructor a line, and get a feel (don't cop one, though). Figure out what they've scored on an LSAC-administered LSAT (if they haven't taken one, run for the jungles). See if you could see spending the next few months with this person, learning from them. Find out if they have BO. Whatever.

Don't commit to buying the product until you've seen it. Ultimately, go with the instructor who inspires the most confidence.

If you have questions, feel free to PM me or something. If you want to tell me what part of the country you're in, I can try to find out who's teaching for you, if you'd like.
