OnTheGo Your obligations under teh rules of ethics are basically none. If you are worried about what the attorney may think of you, then you should give her/him a call and tell him what is happening. but, you are not stealing this client, the client seems to be happy with your services and is freelly deciding to use you. You are free and clear to keep this client. Your only anchor here is how you feel about it, but that is somwthing you need to work out. I would keep the client, they are just going to go to someone else, why not you.
Tomas I recently received a referral from another attorney who was conflicted out of a matter. I handled the clients case and now that client wants to continue to use me for future matters. The rules of professional conduct do not discuss whether I need to send the client back to the original referral attorney.
What are other attorneys doing as a "best practice"
