Brian The uspto should have an address you can send a letter to and from there a communication could be sent to the holder. They do have some mechansim in place for this type of situation.
jpol you can search the USPTO but the name may come up an undisclosed. However, you should be able to send a letter to the address listed.
C. Lochen In some situations, the owner of a copyrighted material is unnamed. In intellectual property circles they call the owner an "orphan".

What is the best way to find out the identity of the property owner? I know that Canada now has a scheme for identifying copyright owners, but what about the U.S.?
