LK311 Even if lawyers do complicate matters a bit at the start. Its kind of their job, to make sure the person they are representing does not run into a pitfall later, or get completely screwed out of what he may be entitled to. They don't generally complicate things for the sake of complicating things. Most things are just complicated and need a trained eye to make sure that they are handled even-handedly.

Indeed, lawyers “do not” complicate matters in negotiating severance packages...
They help keep the process professional so that both parties can move on with their lives or business in its normal course.
Employment lawyers would help either party comprehend the dynamics of the negotiation.
They help identify potent legal and business factors that would motivate the company executives to give a severance pay or if there was an existing severance package, to increase the same.
In fact, employment lawyer helps mitigate the effect of the lost of employment for laid-off employees.
